Remember the flashes of brilliance that Mitch Mustain showed at Arkansas? All of a sudden he packed up and headed to Cali. Apparently, according to Razorback fans, Mustain is extremely full of himself but of course they would say that.
With Mark Sanchez, USC’s apparently chosen starting QB, injured this is Mustain’s chance. How can he not win the starting job?! He was the best high school prospect two years ago and then he stepped up and performed in the SEC. On the list of teams he beat; Utah State, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn, Southeast Missouri State, Mississippi, Louisiana-Monroe and South Carolina. Where is the problem?
“It just got to the point where I knew it wasn’t going to work out there. It was a unique experience, but it was a great learning experience. I was trying to get away from the perception of being ‘the guy’ and the expectations that were placed. It’s a little bit different game here at USC as far as the expectations. They come a little bit later once you’ve earned your spot. That’s something I was looking for. It’s so big here in Los Angeles. You can kind of go your own way.”
That is Mustain on why he left Arkansas. Now he has that chance he wanted to earn his keep. I’m still more than a little confused. Mustain seems like a different breed, at least based off this incident.
He has a lot going for him. He’s super talented and has maybe the best name in college football. Mitch Mustain sounds like the main character to a Will Ferrell movie about college football. Maybe this season will turn out to be similar.
