For the past week or so it has become public knowledge that Elite XC is unhappy with their lightweight champ KJ Noons. “I’m sitting here and I’m drinking from a carton of milk right now,” Elite XC President Jared Shaw said. “And the EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons’ face is on the back of this milk carton because he’s missing in action. I can’t seem to find him.”
Shaw went on to say, “When [Noons' camp] wants to track us down and tell us how Nick Diaz isn’t the right fight for them — or they want more money, or they want this out of their contract, or this and that — they’re easy to get a hold of,” Shaw said. “But to actually make the fight? Impossible.”
Shaw added another interesting fact, he stated that Noons’ will make $23,000 just to show for his next fight. That is a lot of a young, vastly unproven fighter. Where’s the beef, KJ? Elite XC could be in the process of making there best card yet. A card that would include Kimbo, Gina Carano and now a Nick Diaz/KJ Noons battle for the more hardcore fan.
As of today, Elite XC has sent Noons a fight contract for a rematch that would take place this October, one year from the October ‘07 original bout in which Noons beat Diaz by TKO/Referee Stoppage due to cuts. Diaz disputed the stoppage from the beginning.
The two crossed paths several months later at another Elite XC event after Noons successfully defended his belt.
No where in the interview with President Shaw does he take a shot at Noons by claiming that he believes Noons is ducking Diaz. He puts it very simply, “A bout agreement has been sent to KJ Noons. He has until 5 (p.m. PT Thursday) to accept it, or he can face public opinion.”
He will get eaten alive in the MMA world if he doesn’t except by tonight.
