Now that Xavier and CJ Henry have decided on KU, the next big landing will be that of Lance Stephenson. Stephenson become New York City’s all-time leading scoring this past season when he passed the infamous Sebastian Telfair for the number one spot. Both Lance and Sebastian attended Lincoln High in New York City.
Stephenson has certainly been in no rush to start packing for this coming Fall semester. “This is my life. I want to go somewhere that I’m comfortable and I can play at,” Stephenson has said. Stephenson is deciding between St. John’s, Maryland, Kansas as well as potentially Kentucky and Memphis with their new coaches in place.
Adam Zagoria has reported that Maryland was out and that it would come down to either Kansas or St. John’s. It has also been though that Stephenson has no interest in following Xavier Henry to Kansas. That said, it is rumored that the Maryland coaches are not that optimistic about Stephenson deciding on College Park. Although head coach Gary Williams did make a trip to New York last weekend to meet with Stephenson’s camp.
The last big piece for the Stephenson decision might be Greivis Vasquez. If Maryland’s star guard, Vasquez, does leave for the NBA, Maryland would be losing a great player. At the same time it gives Stephenson a chance to lead the Maryland squad. It just matters how Stephenson is looking at the situation and what he wants out of the program he chooses.
All along it has seemed that he has wanted a program that he can make his own rather than a big name perennial power.
