Paulus received scholarship offers to play football at the University of Miami and Notre Dame. He also received basketball scholarship offers from Duke, Syracuse, Georgetown, Florida, North Carolina, and Notre Dame. As we all know, he chose to play basketball at Duke.
Paulus started for Duke his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons until being relegated to coming off the bench this past season. Because Paulus did not redshirt at Duke, he has one year of eligibility remaining in another sport. Since he will being completing his degree at Duke in four years, he can go to graduate school elsewhere and play football immediately if granted a special waiver from the NCAA.
Paulus will be competing against redshirt freshman Ryan Nassib for the starting QB job.
