It broke last night that Kimbo Slice has reported to the Las Vegas set of the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter to begin filming. UFC President is catching some grief for the move but he shouldn’t be.
White originally said, “Kimbo Slice sucks, like I’ve said now for the last few months. This [expletive] guy can’t fight and he got knocked out in 13 seconds by a guy who didn’t win The Ultimate Fighter.”
Then soon after White added, “He won’t win The Ultimate Fighter. The offer is out there if he wants to take it and he won’t win it. I might [put a heavyweight show together just for him].”
Keep in mind this was in the midst of a somewhat heated battle with EliteXC, who at the time seemed to at least be catching a little ground on the UFC. So much for that.
This really is a great move for both parties. For the UFC is Kimbo gets embarrassed (again) then White was right all along and it further legitimizes their product. If he wins then they have the makings of a mainstream super-fight. It is good to be Dana White right now. Well, and always, it would seem.
For Kimbo he gets another shot at making it in MMA and making some more good money. He really couldn’t ask for anything better at this point.
