Damion Fletcher arrested
Southern Mississippi all-time leading rusher was arrested late Sunday night for allegedly firing at least one shot at an apartment complex. Fletcher, a 21-year-old senior, had 4,287 career rushing yards. In his senior campaign, he had 1,313 yards with 10 TDs. Many projected Fletcher to be drafted around the 4th or 5th round in the upcoming NFL Draft. We shall see how this effects his draft stock.
Texas Tech Makes a Deal with Mike Leach
Texas Tech snapped out of it and came to terms on a 3-year extension of their head football coach Mike Leach. The deal is five-years in length for $12.7 million. The value was not the issue and had already been agreed upon, but the issue that came to the forefront was related to Leach’s ability to take another job. Tech didn’t want to be seen as a stepping stone program and did not want to take a chance of having Leach leave them high and dry (see Jeff Jagodzinski and Boston College). Apparently both sides are happy. Good for Leach who really built this program up within the last decade.
Big Ten Basketball
I’ve never been a big Big Ten fan and maybe this is why; on Wednesday night I get a text message from Mike, “Halftime of Penn State-Illionois…17-15 PSU hahaha”. While this game was taking place I was playing in an intramural basketball game myself. I believe the total points of our halftime score was more than the 38-33 final score to this Big Ten “defensive battle”. Yeah, yeah Big Ten defense might be a bit better than some crap intramural league but come on… these are bubble teams for the tourney?!
