76ers logoThe 76ers unveiled their “new” primary logo and color scheme Tuesday. The “new” design  is actually their old primary logo and color scheme.

“By bringing back the old Sixers logo, we are connecting the past with the future,” said Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider. “This logo evokes memories of some of this franchise’s proudest moments. We also made this change because we understood how much this logo means to our fans, this franchise and to our city. The fans had a big input on this decision. We’re excited and we want the entire City of Philadelphia to be excited for Sixers basketball.” (more…)

More info came out today regarding the NFL’s plan for what they are calling legacy games this 2009-2010 season. There will be 16 games in which the eight original AFL teams will wear historic uniforms.

The American Football League merged with the NFL in 1970. The AFL played its first season ten years earlier in 1960 with a total of eight teams. Those teams were the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs (Dallas Texans), New England Patriots (Boston Patriots), New York Jets (Titans of New York), Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans (Houston Oilers).

I think that 6 of the old uni’s have some nostalgic value to them. However, Denver’s and New York’s throwbacks are downright ugly.

Also how tall is Josh McDaniels? 5’3”?

Some Jazz fans made the trip to Phoenix last night rockin’ their old school Jazz threads. Or did they?

I saw this at the bar I was at but only for a split second. For that reason I wasn’t sure what ESPN was showing. I couldn’t hear the announcers and was thoroughly confused.

This morning I see others were as well.

It didn’t occur to me initially but I guess it could have been Suns fans pointing out the outrageous ‘purple-ness’ of the old Jazz uni’s.

The Red Sox unvieled these new, throwback-ish road uniforms today along with the use of the ‘hanging sox’ logo for their new alternate uniforms.

red-sox-alternate-uniform-logoESPN is making seem like the ‘hanging sox’ logo will be the primary logo but as far as I know that is not the case. They do want to phase in the ‘hanging sox’ logo but are not moving away from the ‘B’. The change comes in the use of the  ‘hanging sox’ over the common ‘circle logo’.

red-sox-hanging-sox-logoOverall, I’m liking the new alternates with the red theme still at home and the blue on the road. The new logo’d hats are certain to sell over the holidays, into the season and beyond which was the Sox primary goal in doing this. They have made these changes without compromising the integrity of one of the most historic franchises in sports. In fact, the road uniforms are a great reproduction of a classic Red Sox style.

The Boston Herald is reporting that on Thursday, December 11, the Boston Red Sox will be unveiling changes to their logo and some alternate uniforms.

Personally I like having more alternate uniforms, but I hate when a team’s actual logo changes.  Right now the Sox have the universally known “B” and the old school pair of red socks.  I think that alone is fine.  Teams have butchered logos before, for instance the classic Toronto Blue Jay head is now some streamlined and chic “J” with a the head of a much more elegant and modern blue jay coming out of it.  Stupid.

All I am saying is that logos for a team should rarely change, especially the classics.  As long as the Sox don’t go trying to make the logo “hip”, “sexy”, or “X-treme” I won’t mind too much, but if it was put to vote, I’d still like to just keep the “B”.
